PDC World Championship 13 - Quarterfinals, Evening
The quarterfinals of the evening sessions brought wins for Simon Whitlock and reigning champion Adrian Lewis who progressed to the semi-finals.
Whitlock had no problems with Gary Anderson at all who not only because his well-known double trouble never really was in the match.
Lewis had got a clear lead in his match against Terry Jenkins but then suddenly lost focus and dropped off while Jenkins very much improved. Lewis managed to recover and won the match 5:3.
The World Championship takes a break on New Year's Eeve but will go on on 1. January 2012. Then the semi-finals between James Wade and Adrian Lewis and Andy Hamilton and Simon Whitlock will be played.

PDC World Championship 13 - Quarterfinals, Afternoon
Globaldarts arrived back home from London just in time to watch the unbelievable thrilling quarterfinal between James Wade and John Part.
James Wade already had a 3:1 lead when John Part finally got going. The Canadian first draw level and then got into the lead. James Wade levelled again and the match went into a decisive Set which developed in a close head to head race. Finally a Sudden Death leg brought the decision and James Wade first crossed the finishing line while Part already waited on double tops. As Part said after the match: "It was the greatest game I ever lost".
In the first quarterfinal of the afternoon Andy Hamilton defeated with a once again impressive performance young Belgian Kim Huybrechts with 5:2. Hamilton threw 11 180s and had an average from over 100.

29. December
PDC World Championship 12 - Evening
In the evening the last three third round matches were played.
In the first match Simon Whitlock defeated Michael van Gerwen 4:3 but had to fear for his win. Whitlock already was 3:0 in the lead when van Gerwen started a comeback and won three sets in a row.
Dave Chisnall had no chance at all against Andy Hamilton - it almost looked as if the player who had eliminated Phil Taylor out of the tournament just had no energy left. Hamilton won the match 4:0.
Gary Anderson rushed through the last match of the evening against Colin Lloyd and soon led 3:0. Then Lloyd could win a set and celebrated in style. But it was impossible to stop Anderson who with an average of over 100 progressed into the quarterfinals.

PDC World Championship 12 - Afternoon
Kim Huybrechts caused in the last afternoon match on day 12 of the PDC World Championship the next upset. The young Belgian who only started to play in the PDC this summer eliminated Paul Nicholson 4:1 from the tournament and progressed into the quarterfinals.

PDC World Championship Day 11 - Afternoon
Though all the afternoon matches ended 4:1 none was a really one sided match.
Michael van Gerwen played with a lot of self-confidence while Mervyn King just was not able to use his chances - so now Michael van Gerwen is the only Dutch player still in the contest. He'll meet Simon Whitlock tomorrow evening.
Simon Whitlock defeated Steve Beaton in the same fashion, Beaton was unable too to use the chances.
In the last match of the afternoon Colin Lloyd showed a strong performance to see off newcomer Scott Rand.

In the evening session Dave Chisnall caused the biggest upset in the history of the World Championship and eliminated the 15-times World Champion Phil Taylor with 4:1 from the tournament. Totally unusual for him Phil Taylor was unsure on the doubles. After the match Taylor admitted he had a problem with the heat on stage what never before had happened to him. Chisnall showed no nerves at all and seemed to totally umimpressed by his opponent.
In the other two matches of the evening Kim Huybrechts defeated James Richardson with 4:1 and Paul Nicholson lost not a single set against Alan Tabern.
Reports - Day 10, Evening

PDC World Championship Day 10 - Afternoon
In the afternoon-session both Terry Jenkins and John Part convinced by their performances, which left their opponents Co Stompe and Richie Burnett not many chances. Stompe had an hand injury at his right hand as he had been bitten by a dog on Christmas Eve which might have restricted him. As Richie Burnett who missed just too many darts he never really was in the match. Both Jenkins and Part got an early 3:0 lead which was too much for their opponents.
In the last match of the afternoon-session Andy Hamilton und Vincent van der Voort led a neck and neck race in which in the end the better nerves of Hamilton prevailed.

The last match developed due to Justin Pipe into an epic battle. Wes Newton first had a clear lead but then had more and more problems to cope with Pipe's slow throw and looked slightly irritated. Pipe didn't let himself got worked up and won the match 4:3.

22. December
PDC World Championship - Day 7
The first three matches of day seven of the PDC World Championship were rather onesided. Only surprising was that both Scott Rand and Simon Whitlock - still affected by the broken bone in his ankle - had very clear wins. Both defeated their opponents 3:0 and dominated their matches. The same result had Canadian John Part against John Henderson, he as well dominted his match.
The last match of the evening between Steve Brown and Devon Petersen - and the last first round match - developed dramatically. Brown in the last set missed a match dart and South African Devon Petersen who started to play the Pro Tour this year used his chance. He'll now meet Gary Anderson in the second round.

Gary Anderson got against Heydon his second win and he's on first place in group C. Second is local hero Wayne Jones.
Dramatic was the evening in group D. Justin Pipe was eliminated after he lost against Dave Chisnall and Terry Jenkins managed to win aginst James Wade. Rather surprising after a real bad start Terry Jenkins nor tops the group while James Wade is second.

A slightly unexpected winner had the match between Dave Chisnall and Alan Tabern. Chisnall had dominated the match most of the time but at the end of the third set his nerves let him down and Tabern won.

Stacy Bromberg, Ladies Singles winner tweo years ago in the World Cup, was banned from the WDF for the this years World Cup in Castlebar, though she was nominated becasue of her achievements by the ADO for the American national team.
The WDF didn't give really convincing reasons but it's to suppose Stacy was banned because she played a few PDC Pro Tour events. The existing rule is that one has to play a higher number of WDF tournaments then PDC tournaments to be eligible what stacy did. So the ban looks slightly arbitrarily.

Gary Anderson wins Premier League
With a convincing performance Gary Anderson won his first PDC Major title and defeated Adrian Lewis in the final of the Premier League 10:4.
Lewis in the final never was able to keep up the standard of his semi-final against Phil Taylor and never really was in the match. Gary Anderson only had a few weaker legs but in the end was too strong for Lewis. He even most of the time was sure with his doubles. Looking at the whole Premier League season Anderson certainly is a deserved champion.
In a slightly slack third round match Phil Taylor won 8:6 against Raymond van Barneveld.

While Steve Brown in his last Blog introduces "Equal Darts" as a possible format, George Silberzahn discusses in his article, whether "Equal Darts" might not perhaps be the format of the future. For him due to the skill level of tadays players at least in Soft-Darts the right to throw first is too important by now. He feels it's no longer the better player thoughout the match who has the best chance to win.

Premier League
The last league day of Premier League Saison will be played in Newcastle.
As it's almost clear which players will progress into the Play-offs the results of most matches tonight don't really matter any more.
Simon Whitlock still has a very small chance to replace Adrian Lewis on the fourth place of the table. But he would have to beat Phil Taylor - who certainly will not give him the win easily - and Adrian Lewis would have to lose to Gary Anderson. But will Anderson who is already through to the Play-offs be motivate enough to really set up a fight?
Terry Jenkins will play James Wade - a match only for honour, Raymond van Barneveld will play Mark Webster - a match for Webster's honour, Adrian Lewis will play Gary Anderson and Phil Taylor Simon Whitlock.

Mark Webster finally showed a good performance and his match against Simon Whitlock ended in a draw. As James Wade was defeated by Phil Taylor Whitlock and Wade now both have 11 points. Both could with a win next week mean trouble for Lewis but Lewis has not only two points more but a far better leg difference.

In the first match of the evening in the end Terry Jenkins was a deserved 8:4 winner against Mark Webster. Over the first legs Webster was able to keep up but later Jenkins was the dominating player.
Even more dominant was Phil Taylor who defeated Gary Anderson 8:3. Anderson had too much problems with his doubles but despite his defeat he's through to the Play-offs.
James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld shared the two points in the third match and especially Wade was not really happy with the result as for him the Play-offs are still far away.
The last match was till the break dominated by Adrian Lewis who lost the thread over the first few legs after the break so that Simon Whitlock could equalize. But Lewis found back into the match and won it 8:5. So at the moment Lewis sits on a Play-off place.

The last match of the evening between Raymond van Barneveld and Adrian Lewis was not really a good match and both players quite far from their best. The crowd in Aberdeen stayed fair, though of course Gary Anderson was greeted frenetically. Gary Anderson himself kept his nerve and showed in front of his fellow country men a dominant performance against Terry Jenkins. He won 8:3 and stays on the second place of the table.
Rather surprising James Wade showed himself similar dominant and he got with 8:3 over Adrian Lewis his third win of the season.
The most clear defeat happened to Mark Webster against table leader Phil Taylor, he only won a single leg.
The last match of the evening between Simon Whitlock and Raymond van Barneveld developed in an exchange of blows on the highest level. Whitlock threw the higher scores, but had some problems with his checkouts. He won at the end with 8:5.

Premier League
The second evening of the second half will bring the Premier League back to Aberdeen in Scotland and Gary Anderson appealed to his fellow countrymen to behave better then recently in Glasgow.
But this time the PDC scheduled his match first match of the evening and beside his opponent will be Terry Jenkins who normally has not such a problem with the crowd as Adrian Lewis.
Lewis will play tonight James Wade, both players get around the same amount of boos from the crowd - from this a well-balanced match. Top of the table Phil Taylorwill play the a little bit weak Mark Webster and the last match of the evening will be Raymond van Barneveld against Simon Whitlock. Both players are on the way to top form at the moment. The crowds favourite to be sure will be again van Barneveld so it probably will be a difficult match for Whitlock.

John Part offers commiserations
John Part, one of the prominent IDart supporters, now wrote the following letter to Ichiro Sakamoto Japan Darts Organization General:

Hello,

I wish to express my sympathy and support to all of Japan, and particularly to my friends and comrades in the game of darts. With many deep losses suffered it is hard to face each new day, and each new challenge. The strength of character of the darts communities around the world are very much consistent. No where is it more so than in Japan. It is this spirit of goodwill that I hope can help to bolster you, both spiritually and physically. Darts is only a game, but it is also a discipline which helps us to bring the bests out of ourselves. I also hope that in this great adversity you can find the bests parts of yourselves to help each other past this horrible time. Every time that I throw a dart I am thankful that I can do so, no more so than now.

Sincerely,

John Part

Does the Sport of Dart not originate in England after all?
As one can read in the just published 13. newsletter by the doctor of darts, Patrick Chaplin, today during the excavation of an roman spoil heap by a group of amateur archaeologists a human body was discovered, which seems to be the body of a dartplayer.
In his left hand the well preserved body of a man holds some kind of a trophy while in his right hand he clamps three small wooden pilum like arrows with metal points and buried under him one found a target out of cork which features 20 segments.
Professor Singleton-Parrot, the leader of the group of archealogists, said: "Probably the dart player was on his way home from the forum, had drunken too much, stumbled into the soil heap and suffocated.
One will hear more when the scientific investigation will be brought to a close.

It is not really official but Rod Harrington confirmed talking to Stacy Bromberg - the first and as it looks at the moment only ever PDC Unicorn Women's World Champion - that there will not be another Women's World Championship - at least not this year.
It looks the PDC was not too happy with the number af participants and especially unhappy with the interest of the Top BDO players though it looks it was not only lacking interest but due to overlapping tournament dates. The Women's World Championship was lanced comparatively short noticed and the players had already planned and booked their year.

Players Championship Finals
At the moment it looks this tournament will neither be televised nor streamed this year.
ITV has cancelled it's television broadcast due to financial difficulties and till now the PDC couldn't find another TV channel to televise the tournament.

Grand Slam of Darts 2011
The PDC has announced today that the tournament will now be telvised for the next three years by Sky Sports. ITV which till now televised the GSOD had to withdrew due to financial difficulties.
Beside this the PDC announces that BDO players will still be invited though only the last four of the Lakeside World Championship and now longer the finalists of the World Masters.
Not again invited are any female players. Last year Francisca de Hoenselaar was replaced by the two finalists of the PDC Women World Championship Stacy Bromberg and Tricia Wright but both were not invited for a second year as all the male tournament winners are.

Australian Grand Prix
The first tournament weekend of the Australian Grand Prix brought wins for Arnel Galvez and Bill Aitken.
Galvez won on Saturday - he defeated in the final Steve Duke.
The tournament on Sunday was won by Bill Aitken, he defeated Anthony Fleet in the final.

The DRA fines again
As already anticipated Colin Lloyd was fined by the DRA for his behaviour in his match against Andree Welge during the PDC World Championship - he has to pay 1000 pound for punching the dartboard and 1000 pound for throwing his darts on the stage after the end of the match.
But Lloyd is not the only player who has to pay a fine for his behaviour during the World Championship - both Paul Nicholdon was fined too while Adrian Lewis has to pay for his behaviour during the World Grand Prix. James Wade has to pay 250 pound for an obscene gesture on stage during the World Grand Prix and the U 21 World Champion Arron Monk starts in his 2011 season on the Pro Tour with a "break" of three months for the way he acted at three different tournaments last year.

Martin Adams again BDO World Champion
For the second time in a row Martin Adams won the BDO World Championship. In all it is his third World Champion title.

While Adams started confidently into the match and played commanding in the last two sets but inbetween Dean Winstanley in his first World Championship made him sweat. Adams suddenly threw weak scores and couldn't find the double and Winstanley kept his nerve and gote even a 5:4 lead. Only then Martins managed to have everything under control again and to hinder a sensation.

Trina Gulliver wins BDO Ladies World Championship
With a commanding performance against Rhian Edwards - who only played strong in parts - Trina Gulliver secured her ninth World Championship titel. She was much surer on the doubles then her opponent and deserved the win. Gulliver for the eleventh time took part in the eleven years old tournament, only two times she lost till now.
Both men's quarterfinals today were quite good matches. The match between Stephen Bunting and Dean Winstanley was won by Winstanley 5:1. Winstanley dominated the match despite a good performance by Bunting.
The second quarterfinal first looked like an easy win for Gary Thompson but suddenly his opponent - the young Dutchman Jan Dekker - got going and managed to draw 3:3 and 4:4. Thompson had match darts in the eighth set and chances to win the match in set nine but in the end it was Dekker who got the two legs advantage necessary to win the match. So the young Dutchman at his debut in Lakeside moved on into the semi-finals.

BDO World Championship - Day 6
The Ladies final will be played as last year between Trina Gulliver and Rhian Edwards. Both players won their seimi-finals 2:0, but while Irina Armstrong could at least win two legs from Gulliver and never really was far away Deta Hedman against Rhian Edwards didn't win a single leg and didn't find into the match at all.
The two quarter finals between Martin Adams and Ross Smith and Gary Robson and Martin Phillips were quite good matches. Martin Adams dominated his match and won 5:1. Gary Robson manged a 3:1 lead but then suddenly Martin Phillips found another gear and got clinical with his finishes. As they drew 4:4 the match went into a ninth set where finally Martin Phillips was the one to secure himself the necessary two-legs advantage. He advanced into the semi-finals and will meet there Martin Adams on Saturday.
Tomorrow the other two quarter finals and the Ladies final will be played.

After the second round only four of 16 seeded players are still in the tournament - Martin Adams, Gary Robson, Gary Thompson and Dean Winstanley.
Today with Robbie Green and Scott Waites two seeded players were eliminated. Scott Waites showed a weak performance and lost in a not really good match 2:4 to Stephen Bunting. Certainly a surprise as Waites had won very convincingly in November last year the Grand Slam of Darts.
In the last match of the evening number three seed Dean Winstanly played a good match and defeated Robbie Green 4:1.
Tomorrow the ladies will play their semifinals and the men will play the first two quarterfinals.

With Stuart Kellet today the number two seed was eliminated from the tournament. He was beaten in a more or less weak match by the young Dutchman Jan Dekker with 4:1. Kellet not even averaged 80, Dekker slightly above.
Not really good but at least a thriller was the match between Martin Phillips and Joey ten Berge which Phillips won with his last dart in an deciding leg 4:3.
In the best match of the evening last years runner-up Dave Chisnall lost to Gary Robson. Robson managed to prevent that Chisnall - who threw five 180s - got the 3:3 draw and won the match 4:2.

Adrian Lewis is new PDC World Champion
In a thrilling final Adrian Lewis in the end prevailed over Gary Anderson who not really could take up his brillant performances earlier in the tournament.

Already in the first set Lewis caused a bang and threw a nine-darter, only the third one during all the PDC World Championships. The two others were thrown by Raymond van Barneveld.

For the most part of the match Lewis was the dominant player though he took himself a few times out during which Anderson always managed to get rather close. But Anderson just had too many problems hitting the important doubles to really be a danger for Lewis.

A lot of excitement aroused the first second round match, title holder Martin Adams only managed to win through in a Sudden Death Leg against former world Champion John Walton. In the second match Ross Smith defeated number nine seed Willy van de Wiel.

U 21 Final
The winner of the first PDC Unicorn U 21 World Championship is Arron Monk. He defeated Michael von Gerwen with 6:4. Monk comparatively easy got himself a 4:1 lead an seemed to be in command of the match. But van Gerwen played a few strong legs and equalized. Monk managed to win the 9. leg with a brillant 121 bullseye finish and had the higher scores in the final leg.
A great performance from Arron Monk who never before stood on the big stage during a televised tournament.

U 21 World Championship

Two PDC World Championship Finals
Tonight before the big final the final of the first PDC Unicorn Youth World Championship between young Dutchman Michael van Gerwen and Arron Monk - son of Colin Monk - will be played. It could be an interesting match. Arron certainly is a very talented and determined player, van Gerwen to be sure has much more experience on the big stage. Van Gerwen took part in the "other" World Championship as well but lost an unconvincing match to Mensur Sulkovic. This now will be his first and only chance to win the Youth title as he is already older then the age limit of 21 years...

Followed will this be by the to be sure not less interesting final of the "real" World Championship between Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson. Both players are heavy scorers, both players throw a lot of 180s. Adrians weakness is that he tends to take some time out in a match and that he sometimes throws rather sloppy darts and gets a little bit careless. Andersons weakness is that sometimes his doubles seem to desert him but it looks he's overcome this weakness during the World Championship. So it really should be a great final of two very talented, rather fast throwing players. Who'll win is hard to predict even the betting companies don't offer a clear favorite...

PDC World Championship
Phil Taylor's elimination of the World Championship today bothers the darts world. Will the 15 time World Champion come back? At the moment probably nobody will be able to answer the question - Taylor himself says he will. To be sure Taylor was not as well prepared for the tournament as in recent years. His mind was occupied with his newest grandson - who was born much prematurely and had too pass some time in intensive care. And his nomination for the BBC Sports Personality of the year where he was voted on second place kept him busy too so he didn't have as much time at the practice board as usually. And of course there still is the problem with his eyes - it will not have suddenly disappeared again.
So the next month will be interesting - will Taylor return to dominate? And shouldn't he manage - will he be contend with being one of several strong players?

Whatever will happen Global Darts is looking forward to the certainly interesting semi-finals, but shrinks back to predict the next World Champion out of that field of four very different players with different strengths. The betting companies see Gary Anderson in front. When he'll manage it to keep his nerves over two more matches he'll probably be invincible. But will he be able to do so?
