Scott Waites plays for the BDO since 2004 but had to wait for his first good results till 2007. He was invited from the PDC
to the Grand Slam of darts but ended in the group phase.
In 2008 he had his BDO World Championship debut and played himself into the quarterfinals. In the same year he qualified by the Pub Amateur Qualifiers for the PDC UK Open and reached the final of the World Masters.
2009 he was back in Lakeside for the BDO World Championship and again ended in the quarterfinals. Once again the PDC invited him to the Grand Slam and this time he stood in the final but lost to Phil Taylor.
Waites again qualified for the BDO World Championship 2010 and for the third time ended in the quarterfinals. After Martin Adams had rejected the invitation to the Grand Slam his place went to Waites and this time Waites won the tournament. He is so far the only player who ever won a tournament of the opposing organisation. In 2011 Waites won the Winmau World Masters, the Zuiderduin Masters and the singles of the WDF World Cup. The next two years one didn't hear much of him but in 2013 he won for the first time the BDO World Championship. 2016 he won the title again before he again went to ground. 2019 he reached the final of the World Masters. After the BDO World Championship 2020 - in which he reached the quarterfinals - Waites decided to take part in the PDC Qualifiying School. He got a Tour Card on Day 4 and by now moved up to place 99 in the PDC Order of Merit. By the Pro Tour Order of Merit he qualified for the PDC World Championship 2021 and lost Second Round to Nathan Aspinall.
