Kevin Painter started as County player before in 1994 he joined the BDO. He took part in all World Championships between 1994 and 2001 and reached two times the quarterfinals. Beside this he won several Open titles.
He switched to the PDC in 2001 after he had taken part two times as a BDO player at the World Grand Prix. He had caused a sensation i in 2001 because he managed to beat Phil Taylor who had one the tournament for two years. It was the first time Phil Taylor was defeated in the first round of a Major tournament.
After this Painter first played the Winmau World Masters and the Zuiderduin Masters and then decided to join the PDC for good. His best result in the PDC so far was his World Championship finale against Phil Taylor in 2004 - one of the classic darts matches.
2006 and 2007 were no good years for Painter. But after he had lost once again first round in the World Grand Prix he with new determination slowly worked up again in the ranking. His results still are so-so but he managed to stay in the Top 16.
Finally in 2011 Painter won his first Major final - the Players Championship finals. Through this he moved up under the top 10 of the PDC Order of Merit and got a wild card for the Premier League 2012.
