Alexander Merkx made his first appearance at the Dutch Open 2012 where he reached the Last 32.
2018 he for the first time took part in the PDC Qualifying School but couldn't get a Tour Card. In the same year he stood at the Lithunian Open in his first WDF Final and qualified for his first PDC European Tour Event. 2022 Merkx won the Helvetia Open and the Lithunian Open. After he reached the Last 16 of the World Masters he had qualified for the WDF World Championship 2023 in Lakeside.
2023 he took for the second time part in the PDC Qualifying School - again without success. So he played on the Challenge Tour where he reached a semi-final and a final and moved up in so far one Pro Tour Event. By the
Challenge Tour Order he managed to qualify for the PDC World Championship 2024/25 where he lost second round to Chris Dobey. 2025 Merckx again tried to get a Tour Card in Q School and again failes. in 2025 he played mostly
on the WDF Circuit but returned to Q School in 2026 and this time he finally got his Tour Card.
