BDO World Championship - Report, Statistics Men's Final

Glen Durrant affirmed his place in the elite of the sport - he defeated Scott Waites in the final of the BDO World Championship with 7:3 and for the third time won the title. Before him only Eric Bristow managed to win three BDO titles.

Durrant already had an outstanding start into the match - he won the first set against the throw with a checkout rate of 100 percent. Waites won set two and levelled. The next two sets were won against the throw as well though Waites had to hit a 128 finfish in set four to hinder a two set lead of Durrant. Durrant won set five but missed the bullseye for his finish to win the next set and Waites again levelled 3:3. With this score line the two players went into the break.

Durrant got the first set after the break and then for the first time in the match expanded his lead to two sets. Waites had to wait till set ten before he had another chance to win a set but he had lost his accuracy on the doubles and Durrant forced a deciding leg. Waites missed three more chances to his a double while Durrant used his chance to win a third World Champion title and hit the double 16 to cross the finishing line.

The match had started close but after the break Waites couldn't keep up any longer and had a lot of double trouble as well. Durrant on the other side played a rather consistent level and was clinical on his doubles throughout the match - a deserved winner of an in the end regrettable one-sided final.
