PDC World Championship - Match Report, Statistics third Day, Afternoon

The afternoon session of day three again started with the preliminary round match - this time between young Fin Kim Viljanen - a small Finnish flag was waved in the crowd - and even younger Dutchman Sven Groen. It was a quite appealing match, both players averaged over 80. Viljanen won it 2:1 with the far better hit ratio on the doubles.

A sparkling clean performance veteran Steve Beaton showed against Koha Kokiri from New Zealand. The 3:0 result not really reflects the match, but again the better hit ratio on the doubles decided the match. Than with Dimitri van den Bergh the surprise package of the afternoon danced on stage. He not only can dance - he can play darts as well and let the favourite to win the match Ian White no chance at all. A 3:1 win for the dancing star and another Top 16 player was eliminated from the tournament. In the last match of the afternoon we met Kim Viljanen again but he never was a danger to Kevin Painter. Viljanen played not as good as in the preliminary round match and Painter just played in another league.

Day Three afternoon
DANCING Dimitri Van den Bergh shocked number nine seed Ian White to reach the second round of the William Hill Wold Darts Championship on Saturday afternoon at London's Alexandra Palace, while Steve Beaton also progressed.

21-year-old Belgian prospect Van den Bergh treated the crowd to his best moves during his walk-on before producing four finishes of over 100 to win on his World Championship debut. Despite losing the first set, the youngster hit back by taking the next three in an impressive display to set up a second round clash with Benito van de Pas or Max Hopp on December 27.
"I'm happy about my game but I know I can do better," said Van den Bergh, who only made his television debut at last month's World Series of Darts Finals.

Beaton saw off the challenge of New Zealander Koha Kokiri with a classy straight sets victory, which he completed with a brilliant 164 checkout.
"I was delighted with that finish because I didn't want it to go to any more sets," said Beaton, who was tied at two legs apiece in the third set when he produced the highest finish of the tournament so far. I'm pleased with how I played. I took a holiday before this, which I've never done before. I haven't been getting the results I should so I've tried something different. Now I can enjoy Christmas, practice and give it a good go in the next round."
The former Lakeside Champion will take on Michael Smith or Jeffrey De Zwaan in the last 32 on December 27.

Painter recorded a convincing victory against Kim Viljanen, who had defeated Sven Groen in their earlier preliminary round match. The former World Championship runner-up won in straight sets to tee up a potential second round clash with Phil Taylor, who defeated Painter in the 2004 final.
"It's all about getting through the first round," said Painter, who hit four 180s in the win. "I knew Kim was a tricky player after watching his first game and I'm grateful to get the win. The standard in the PDC now is so high that nobody is safe in the first round anymore so I'm glad to be through."
