Report
MENSUR SULJOVIC put on the performance of the opening session of the Ladbrokes World Series of Darts Finals, as he powered his way past Robert Thornton with a 6-0 win. Suljovic punished the home favourite for ten missed attempts at doubles as he whitewashed his opponent. The Austrian, who has moved in to the top eight for the first time in his career averaged 102.48 and will take on Phil Taylor, who he beat in Belgium last week, in the second round.

Cristo Reyes had to come from 5-3 down to claim a last leg 6-5 win over Max Hopp in the opening match of the tournament. The Spaniard looked set to be knocked out in the first round as Hopp broke in the opening leg and was comfortable on throw until the tenth leg. Reyes then hit a maximum before pinning tops to take the match to a decider where a 177 followed by double ten sealed the win.

Benito van de Pas moved comfortably in to round two with a 6-3 over Michael Smith. The Dutchman punished Smith, who has struggled for form recently, hitting finishes of 160 and 118 to book a second round clash with James Wade.

Kim Huybrechts averaged 100 as he overcame the in-form Jelle Klaasen in a last leg decider. The Belgian hit three maximums and will face Dave Chisnall in this afternoon's second round.

Simon Whitlock then had to survive a late comeback from Brendan Dolan to book himself a second round encounter with Raymond van Barneveld. The Australian led 5-2 before a spirited fight back from Dolan put the celebrations on ice. Whitlock took out 60 on tops in the final leg to seal the win with an average of 93.34.

Joe Cullen was another that needed a last leg deciding leg to move in to the second round as he beat Joe Murnan. Cullen had to come from 2-0 behind after being broken in the opening leg but a ten-darter in the deciding leg of the match booked a second round match with Gary Anderson.

Gerwyn Price set up a second round encounter with Michael van Gerwen as he beat Steve Beaton 6-3. The Welshman was ruthless on the doubles, missing just one attempt. Price takes on the world number one this evening a week after being beaten by the Dutchman in the European Championship.

The afternoon session concluded with Daryl Gurney overcoming Josh Payne with a 6-3 victory. Gurney produced some impressive moments, including a 141 finish in leg five with Payne waiting on 80 to break. The Northern Irishman hit 55 percent of his attempts at doubles and will face Peter Wright this evening.
