Let's Eat...

On first view Food is not directly connected to a darts tournament and I can't remember I did ever see a player eat during a Major Tournament. During the floor tournaments in the venues one can usually find some kind of snack counter which offers hot dogs or similar things though even there the players only seem to eat when the tournament is over for them. Might be they eat a chocolate bar in between or some crisps but in generally the "liquid" food seems to be enough. Though the players have to be at the venue at least two hours before their matches during the major tournaments they don't seem to eat there at all. They very often disappear a short time after the match - probably then they go for their meal. Would they really not eat at all a lot of them probably would be a little bit slimmer...

But there are not only players at a major tournament there is a lot of staff as well and it works for much longer hours and can't just leave. Members of the staff are around hours before the players and only leave when all the players have left. There is a lot that has to be prepared. Even the commentators and the mc arrive early to get into the mood and to collect some information. It's not that they do everything off the cuff and it's not that they can say everything what comes into their minds.

For all the Sky Sport people - and that's quite a lot - beside the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton an "open air" kitchen is establish beside a mobile dinner - might be for the cooked meal of the day. Every time I passed there a young man worked hard to produce the meals. I did see a lot of tuna and ham and sandwiches, there were dozens of bananas, one day he prepared plates with cake and on my last day in Wolverhampton he chopped broccoli. As it started to get very cold it probably was not a rather comfortable workplace...

During the evening I could see several times somebody bring in plates with sandwiches for the television people which they take and eat during the commercials or whenever they find the time.

Of course people in the pressroom eat as well though it rarely happens when it's only played in the evenings, it's almost impossible to find the time when the matches are under way. But sweets are usually much in demand whether it's cookies, chocolate bars and toffees. They seem to come from no-where and are there for all to grab.

For me it is an English breakfast in the morning and in the evening my attempt to get a nice meal can look like this

Whether there exist some kind of Wolverhampton specialities I couldn't find out but there exists a brewery in Wolverhampton and a little bit outside in Halfpenny Green which is a part of Wolverhampton one can even find a wine a vineyard which products got already numerous awards.
