Fochesato defeats Turai to win 2023 CT1 WDF Lakeside Girls World Championship
Aurora Fochesato made darting history as she became the first Italian to win on the Lakeside stage with a 2-0 victory over Krisztina Turai in the WDF Girls World Championship final.
The 17-year-old Italian swept a scrappy first set 3-0 that saw both players struggle to find their rhythm.
Following the break, the standard improved with Fochesato producing a match-best 15-darter before Turai went 2-1 up in the second set with an 82 checkout.
Turai then missed a clutch of darts to take the match to a third set and Fochesato duly punished her, pinning double 16 to make it 2-2 before winning the set's deciding leg in 22 darts.
Fochesato finished with a 59.43 average and becomes the second winner of the Girls World Championship after England's Eleanor Cairns in 2022.
Van der Velden downs Dee to win 2023 WDF Boys World Championship
15-year-old Bradley van der Velden beat Ireland's Adam Dee in straight sets to win the 2023 CT1 WDF Lakeside Boys World Championship.
Following on from his compatriot Bradly Roes' victory in this tournament last year, van der Velden raced through the opening set 3-0, sealing it with a 76 finish.
Dee got more into it in the second set, winning the first two legs before squandering a host of doubles to level it up going into the break. Van der Velden punished him with a 17-darter, and then pinned double one to move 2-0 up in sets.
Coming back from the break it was all one-way traffic, with van der Velden winning the third set 3-0 to a seal a 3-0 victory with a 69.93 average.
Greaves beats De Graaf to retain WDF Women's World Championship
Beau Greaves came to Lakeside this week with the express intention of retaining her title and she did exactly that, beating Aileen de Graaf 4-1 in the final of the 2023 CT1 WDF Lakeside Women's World Championship.
The 19-year-old had dropped just two legs throughout the tournament coming into the final and that tally had only gone up to three by the time of the first break, with Greaves taking the first set 3-1 and then sealing the second 3-0 in 47 darts.
De Graaf provided more resistance in the third set, going 2-1 up with finishes of 76 and 56, only for Greaves to then go out in 15 and 19 darts to move 3-0 up and within three legs of the title.
That resistance went a bit further in the fourth set as De Graaf took it 3-1, winning three legs on the spin to force the match beyond the second break.
Greaves turned it up after the second break though, winning the fifth set 3-0 in 48 darts to complete a 4-1 victory with an 84.64 average.
Brilliant Baetens beats Landman to become Belgium's first Darts World Champion
Andy Baetens lived up to his billing as tournament favourite by comfortably beating Chris Landman 6-1 to win the 2023 CT1 WDF Lakeside World Championship.
'The Beast from the East' came racing out of the blocks in the final, averaging more than a ton as he won the first two sets without dropping a leg.
Landman got on the board in the third set with checkouts of 56 and 81 but Baetens reeled in the big fish to level the set before winning the next leg in 15 darts to move 3-0 ahead.
Former Dutch international Landman did claim the fourth set but would only win two more legs from that point, with Baetens taking the next two sets 3-1 to move 5-1 up.
Baetens kicked off the seventh set with a 146 finish, his fourth ton-plus checkout of the match, and then won the next two legs in 18 and 13 darts to take the seventh set 3-0 and win the match 6-1 with a 93.69 average.
Baetens, who finished the final with six 180s, is the first-ever Darts World Champion from Belgium and heads back to his native country with the 50,000 pound top prize in his possession.
